Gary Man Sentenced to 45 Years in Murder and Robbery Case
A Gary man has been sentenced to decades in prison after admitting his role in a fatal 2023 shooting inside a local convenience store.
According to Lake County court records, Melvion M. Delphie, 23, entered into a plea agreement in July 2025, formally pleading guilty to murder in connection with the death of Alexander Hudson on January 28, 2023.
Court documents show the incident began at the One Stop Convenience Store on West 45th Avenue in Gary, where Hudson had arranged to sell marijuana. Surveillance video captured Delphie and a co-defendant returning to the store multiple times that evening. After Delphie saw Hudson with a firearm during one of the transactions, he said he wanted to return to take the gun.
The affidavit states that when Delphie confronted Hudson inside the store, a struggle broke out over the weapon. A second man, who was armed, drew his handgun during the altercation. Hudson was fatally shot, and video showed Delphie taking Hudson’s firearm before fleeing the store.
As part of the plea, Delphie was sentenced to 45 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed additional charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, robbery resulting in bodily injury, robbery, and theft.
