Gary Menards Burglary, Amazon Burglaries, and ATM Damaged In Gary Overnight
Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of East 15th Avenue at Amazon for looting, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of the Gary Police. Upon arrival officers were able to stop one of the vehicles involved and took the vehicle occupants into custody. While the original incident was being contained an additional vehicle arrived and removed packages from the containers, Westerfield stated. This vehicle was also stopped and occupants arrested. Cumulatively 8 people were arrested: 2 female black both 20 years old from Merrillville, three male blacks from Gary ages 18, 19 and 21, one female black from Harvey Il age 20 and two female juveniles, Westerfield said.
Gary Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:30 AM to 6050 W Ridge Rd at Menards for a burglary in progress as well Westerfield told RNS. Upon arrival officers entered the business and located the Menard’s security guard who was holding two men in the safe room. The two males, are white, 18 years old and Gary residents. They were unsuccessful at gaining entry into the safe and were arrested.
In a third incident in Gary Monday night officers were on a traffic stop in the 3500 block of Grant Street when they heard an explosion, Westerfield told RNS. Officers went to investigate and were flagged down by a security guard of a business. The guard said that some males had damaged the ATM in the 3300 block of Grant St (Aldi parking lot). Officers set a perimeter and shortly after saw three males running and were detained shortly after. A K9 was brought in and tracked from the ATM to the location the males were detained, police said. The Security guard was able to identify the males as the ones he saw at the ATM. Three males were taken into custody; one 20 year old male black from Gary and two male juveniles.
