
Gary “Mother” Charged With Numerous Felonies
On April 22, 2025, Detective O. Vasquez of the Gary Police Department filed charges with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office against Precious Jones, age 43, from Gary in reference to a case involving the neglect of her 7 children, all who are under the age of fourteen (14) years old, according to a Gary press release.
On April 20, 2025, at approximately 9:43 PM, Gary Police Department Officers A. Piesyk and M. Czajkowski responded to a welfare check in the 900 block of East 43 Avenue. The call for assistance was made by a concerned citizen. The citizen also contacted The Department of Children Services.
Upon the officer’s arrival they learned the incident began at a gas station when Jones, allegedly intoxicated, demanded that her juvenile daughter enter the station to purchase gas. When the daughter refused because of the way she was dressed. Jones became angry and put her daughter out of the car and drove off, leaving her at the gas station. After arriving home, Jones still angry; is alleged to have chocked another of her daughters and threatened to kill the child. The child was able to break free and flee the home. Sometime later she was located by the Lake County Sheriff and returned to the scene where she provided her account of the incident to the police officers. The child was treated for her injuries by the Gary Fire Department. Jones was arrested at the scene. DCS took custody of the children, police said.
On April 22, 2025, The Gary Police Department Investigative Division secured count 1 Attempted Murder ( Level 1 Felony), count II Domestic Battery Resulting In Bodily Injury To A Person Less than 14 (Level 5 Felony), count III Criminal Confinement (Level 5 Felony), count IV Neglect Of A Dependent Resulting In Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony), count V Domestic Battery On A Person Less Than 14 Years Old(Level 6 Felony), Count VI Attempted Strangulation (Level 6 Felony), and seven 7 counts of Neglect of a Defendant ( Level 6 Felony) against Precious Jones.
