Gary Police Chase Carjackers To Oak Lawn
Around 2:52 PM, Monday, Gary Police Lt. Abegg spotted a carjacked vehicle off of Gary’s new camera system near 25th Ave & Grant St, according to Commander Jack Hamady of The Gary Police.
The Lt. went to stop the stolen vehicle when it fled onto westbound 80/94. Officers located the vehicle again passing Burr Street on 80/94. The vehicle continued to flee into Illinois and exited off the expressway at Cicero and then back on 294 north. The suspects again exited at 95th & Oak Park where they crashed into a pole disabling the vehicle. Two suspects bailed from the vehicle fleeing on foot.
Lake County Sheriff Aviation Helicopter was able to assist in tracking the driver so Gary & Oak Lawn Police could apprehend him. The passenger was caught shortly before 5 PM hiding under a vehicle in the area. There were no reported injuries from the incident.
The vehicle was carjacked Sunday out of Chicago. The suspect will be extradited back to Indiana to face charges.
