Gary Police Investigating Double Homicide Early Thursday Morning
On July 31, 2025, at approximately 3:45 AM, Gary Police officers were in the area of 35th Ave and Grant St. when they heard multiple gunshots in the area of the Village Shopping Center. While investigating the shots fired officers were flagged down by two individuals that were standing next to a SUV in the parking lot of the Village Shopping Center, located at 3524 Grant St. Gary Officers immediately rendered assistance and discovered two individuals shot inside the vehicle multiple times.
The individuals were pronounced deceased on the scene by Gary Fire Department. Gary officers did locate a crime scene near the intersection of 37th Ave and Grant St.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Lake County Metro Homicide Unit. Assisting with the investigation is the Lake County Sheriff’s Department CSI unit and the Lake County Coroner’s office.
The Lake County Coroner has identified both victims as Dante Givens, 37, of Chicago and Deon Stewart, 36, of Chicago.
