Gary Police Investigating Man Shot Taking Out Trash

On November 4, 2023 at approximately 7:56 AM, Gary Police officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of W. 5th Avenue for a gunshot victim, according to Gary Police.

Upon their arrival officers observed subjects in a doorway of an apartment building and when they approached them the officers found the victim laying on the stairs. The 32-year-old Gary man told police that while he was taking out the trash he heard several gun and realized that he been shot. Witnesses also told the officers that a silver vehicle with no back window may have been involved in the shooting.

A short time later Gary Police Cpl. D. Briggs observed a silver Hyundai with its rear driver’s side window down or missing. Cpl. Briggs stopped the vehicle a short distance from the scene of the shooting, in an alley in the 200 block of Cleveland after a brief low speed chase. Briggs described the car as having bullet holes in it and a shattered window. The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old Gary man was taken into custody and the Hyundai was towed.
