Gary Woman Charged After Allegedly Kicking Out Son and Injuring Officer
A Gary woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly forcing her 11-year-old son out of the house and injuring a police officer during a heated encounter with authorities.
According to court documents, on May 17, 2025, Gary Police responded to a home on Calhoun Street after receiving a report involving a child. Officers located the 11-year-old, who stated he had been kicked out of his home by his mother following an argument.
When officers attempted to speak with the child’s mother, identified as Sherelle Javon Jackson, she became combative and repeatedly yelled profanities at officers and her son. At one point, she told officers she was “tired of his ass” and admitted to making the child leave the house.
As police attempted to deescalate the situation and coordinate with the Department of Child Services (DCS), Jackson allegedly slammed the front door on an officer’s leg, causing visible swelling and bruising.
Jackson continued to yell from inside the home and resisted further communication. She was later taken into custody after officers escorted a DCS worker into the residence.
On May 19, 2025, Jackson was formally charged with:
- Battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety officer – Level 5 Felony
- Neglect of a dependent by placing the child in a situation that endangered them – Level 6 Felony
- Disorderly conduct by making unreasonable noise – Class B Misdemeanor
Jackson is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
