
Gary Woman Charged After Shooting into Hammond Family Members Home
According to court documents, a Gary woman has been charged after allegedly firing a gun into a family member’s home during a domestic dispute.
Police say the incident happened on June 26, 2025, around 7:20 a.m. in the 6200 block of Ash Avenue. A woman told officers that she, her mother, and her daughter were inside the residence when multiple gunshots were fired at the home. They took cover until police arrived.
Ring camera footage reportedly showed a red Jeep Renegade pulling into the driveway before three shots were fired from inside the vehicle. The complainant identified the driver as her 64-year-old family member, Norma Jean Givens. Bullets struck a living room window, blinds, and the frame of the home, causing about $1,500 in damage. A projectile was later recovered from the carpet inside the house .
Investigators said a license plate reader tracked Givens’ Jeep in the area shortly before the shooting. When she was later stopped on August 27, 2025, officers reported finding a .38 Special revolver in her purse. During an interview, Givens admitted she had shot out the window of the home because she was upset with relatives over ongoing family disputes. She also acknowledged she could have hurt or killed someone by firing into the house .

• Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon (Level 6 Felony)
• Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon (Level 6 Felony)
• Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon (Level 6 Felony)
• Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun (Class A Misdemeanor)
