Governor Pritzker Visits Calumet City To Sign New Law For Students To Vote

Governor JB Pritzker came to Calumet City today to sign into law SB1970 sponsored by our very own State Senator Elgie Sims. The new law will allow students who are of voting age time to vote during school hours without any repercussions. TF North student Markies Horace went to Springfield and spoke before the Senate Committee to move the Bill into law. The bill is designed to inspire and encourage younger voters to get engaged in the election process.

Senator Sims said to the crowd of students “continue to fight for the government we deserve…”. “I could not think of any other place than right here at TF North for the Governor to sign this bill into law” Sims said.

TF North Teacher Emily Biegel and District 215 Board Member LeAnne Revis both advocated for the Bill. In November, 2018 both organized a March to the Polls to encourage those eligible to vote.

Mayor Michelle Qualkinbush thanked Governor Prizker for coming to Calumet City and for working to encourage our younger voters to vote.
