Hammond Awarded Grant For Shotspotter Technology
On Monday, October 2, 2023, Indiana State Congressman Frank J. Mrvan announced a federal grant award for the Hammond Police Department under the Department of Justice’s Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction program.
According to the Department of Justice, the Hammond Police Department will receive a Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Grant award in the amount of $300,000 to implement innovative gunshot detection policing technology in areas designated as gun violence hot spots in order to improve public safety, decrease gun violence, and increase timely medical assistance for residents experiencing gun violence.
Congressman Mrvan stated, “I applaud the initiative of Mayor McDermott and all of the leaders of the City of Hammond and the Police Department to successfully utilize this important federal resource. Let us continue to collaborate to improve the ability of all of our police officers to perform their invaluable services and keep our communities safe.”
