Hammond Businesses Hit By Theft Suspects Leads To Police Chase And Arrests

On February 24th, at approximately 1:40 PM, Hammond police responded to three separate businesses in reference to four male subjects attempting to steal items, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. The first location was in the 1800 block of 165th street and the suspects went to two locations in the 100 block of Sibley Street. They were believed to possibly be armed.

The Calumet City Police Department and the Lansing Police Department located the suspect vehicle near Burnham Ave. The suspect vehicle crashed and the suspects fled on foot near Burnham Ave & 170th on the Little Calumet River bridge. A helicopter and police dogs were called into to assist with the search in the area. A suspect was believed to have thrown a weapon in the River and The Lansing Fire Department Dive Team was called into search the River according to sources on scene.

Four suspects believed to be involved in the incidents have been taken into custody by Calumet City police. Hammond detectives are on scene investigating. Additional information will be released when possible, Kellogg stated.
