Hammond Man Arrested On Murder & Multiple Rape Cases From Two Decades Ago
A criminal confinement case filed by the Hammond Police Department in November of 2020 has led to the identification and arrest of 54-year-old Kenneth M. Marshall who was currently residing in Hammond. Hammond detectives, in conjunction with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, filed criminal confinement causing serious bodily injury charges against Marshall and arrested him in November of 2020.
Upon collection of Marshall’s DNA at the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, who collects the samples and enters them in a National DNA database, detectives from the State of Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation laboratory determined that the profile matched that of a suspect of theirs in a murder and three rapes which occurred more than 20 years ago.
Marshall was a suspect in a series of crimes from 2000, which occurred in Toledo, Ohio. In April, 2000, a 19-year-old victim was raped and murdered in her apartment. In August 2000, a 17-year-old victim was abducted and raped as she walked through a parking lot. In October 2000, a 13-year-old victim was abducted at a bus stop and raped. All three incidents have remained unsolved until the November arrest by the Hammond Police Department.
When Ohio detectives learned of a match to one of their suspects, they reached out to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hammond Police Department for assistance. Marshall, who was currently released on an ankle monitor pending hearings from the November arrest, was residing in Hammond. On the morning of January 15th, the Hammond Police Department, in cooperation with the US Marshall’s Great Lakes Task Force, arrested Marshall without incident outside of his residence in the 900 block of State Street.
“The Hammond Police Department is proud to have assisted in removing a murder and rape suspect from the streets. We work well with all local, State, and Federal agencies seeking assistance. If criminals think they are safe in our city, they are not. The police department will work diligently to get them in custody to keep our city safe.”
The Hammond Police Department would like to thank the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, and the US Marshall’s Great Lakes Task Force for all of their assistance.
