Hammond Man Charged After Grabbing & Spitting On Nurses Inside Munster Hospital
Xavier Dornell Felton, 50, of Hammond, is facing multiple felony charges after police say he grabbed nurses, spit on hospital staff, and caused a disturbance inside an emergency room in Munster.
According to court documents, Felton was a patient at Community Hospital in Munster on September 27, 2025, after being brought in for a reaction to an illegal substance.
Police were dispatched to the hospital around 8:57 a.m. for a reported battery on nursing staff. Hospital security told responding officers that Felton was acting hostile, grabbing staff members and spitting inside an emergency room exam area.
One nurse told police that while placing Felton on a heart monitor, he grabbed her by the front of her shirt in an aggressive manner, pulling her toward him and refusing to let go as she attempted to pull away. She stated she was terrified and in fear for her safety.
The same nurse reported Felton became irate, began yelling and cursing, threw tissue boxes, and spit at her.
A second nurse stated that while administering medication through an IV, Felton grabbed her arm in a forceful manner, causing pain and preventing her from pulling away. She said he yelled that he could grab anyone he wanted and did not immediately release her.
Hospital security officers reported Felton was shouting obscenities, throwing items, and making statements that he could “touch anybody he wanted,” while directing profanity toward staff and security.
Lodged in the Lake County Jail on March 27,2026.
