Hammond Man Charged Again in Separate Residential Burglary Case
Hammond- A 57-year-old Hammond man is facing new burglary and theft charges in connection with a 2024 residential break-in on the city’s south side, according to court records and a sworn probable cause affidavit filed in Lake County.
On November 23, 2024, the residents of a home in the 500 block of 173rd Street left their house that morning, locking and securing it and giving no one permission to enter. When they returned shortly after 1:15 p.m., they found a window smashed, the inside ransacked, and several items missing -including a handgun, a rifle with a green rifle bag, and multiple pieces of jewelry.
Detectives obtained surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses. Around 11:30 a.m., a male dressed in all black with light-colored shoes was seen walking around the residence and later fleeing through the front door carrying a green rifle bag. Detectives compared multiple still images to police photographs and wrote that they identified the suspect as Anthony Gutierrez.
Gutierrez is already facing charges in a separate burglary case.
He remains lodged in the Lake County Jail as of October 18, 2025.
Charges filed October 22,2025:
• Burglary of a dwelling — Level 4 Felony
• Theft (firearm) — Level 5 Felony
