Hammond Man Charged with Possessing a Machine Gun
Terrence Hodges of Hammond has been charged with possessing a machine gun and resisting law enforcement following an early morning encounter with Hammond Police near a gated business.
According to court documents, at approximately 4:02 a.m. on June 22, 2025, Hammond Police officers were clearing from a call in the 200 block of Conkey Street when they observed a man walking away from the gated property of a nearby business. The man, later identified as Hodges, was dressed in dark sweatpants, gloves, a ski mask, and no shirt.
Officers made contact with Hodges in the 400 block of Conkey Street. He told police he was just walking, listening to music, and trying to get Wi-Fi so his phone would work. Based on the time of day, Hodges’ location, and his attire, police had reasonable suspicion he may have attempted to break into the business.
When officers observed a bulge in Hodges’ pocket and attempted to pat him down, he tried to flee and physically resisted. After a brief struggle, Hodges was detained. Hammond Police recovered a Glock handgun from his pocket that was equipped with an illegal “switch” device, classifying it as a machine gun under Indiana law.
Hodges is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
Charges filed on June 23, 2025:
