Hammond Men Charged With Armed Robbery And Kidnapping After Victim Lured To Hammond Home

Hammond- Two Hammond men, identified as 18-year-old Robert Edmond Herron Jr. and 20-year-old Nehemiah Jerell Ameer Prince, have been charged in Lake County after police say they pointed guns at a man’s head, forced him into his own car, and made him drive to an ATM before stealing the vehicle.

According to investigators, the incident began the morning of November 7, 2025, when a Hammond Police detective was called to a home in the 400 block of Waltham Street after a man reported he had been robbed and his vehicle stolen. The man told officers he had been lured to the residence by an acquaintance from school, known to him as “Robert,” who invited him over to smoke marijuana, possibly buy some, and take pictures.

He said he believed “Robert” — later identified as Herron — had seen his Instagram stories where he had shown off large amounts of cash and wanted to use him in photos and videos. When he arrived, no one was home, but Herron told him to come to the side door. As soon as he knocked, he said Herron grabbed him and forced him into the basement, where Herron and another man, identified later as Nehemiah Prince, pointed guns at him and demanded his money.

The affidavit states that both Herron and Prince held firearms to his head, threatening him before forcing him into his own vehicle. Prince allegedly drove, while Herron sat in the back seat with him, still pointing a gun at him. They ordered him to withdraw cash from an ATM at the Express Food Mart at 6031 Hohman Avenue, according to court records.

Surveillance footage from the store showed the man arriving with both suspects and entering together. Once inside, he refused to withdraw money, telling them they would “just have to shoot him.” Herron and Prince then left him at the store and drove off in his vehicle, the affidavit says. He flagged down a passerby who called police on his behalf.

Detectives responding to the Waltham Street home saw three men matching the suspect descriptions exit the house and walk away in different directions. All three were stopped and detained. Surveillance footage from the Express Food Mart helped detectives confirm the identities of the suspects as Herron and Prince. A search of the basement area where Prince was staying turned up two Glock magazines but no firearm.
