Hammond Officer Injured After Crash
At approximately 7:45 PM, Friday, a Hammond Police Department squad car traveling westbound on 169th Street was involved in a serious accident at the intersection with Southeastern Avenue, according to Hammond Police.
A vehicle occupied by two female passengers reportedly ran a red light while traveling southbound on Southeastern Avenue and collided with the squad car. Both female occupants were transported to Community Hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.
The Hammond police officer involved, a male, was transported to Christ Hospital in serious condition. Thankfully, his injuries are not considered life-threatening, Police said.
Hammond Police and Indiana State Police are actively investigating this incident. Police will release further updates as more information becomes available.
