Hammond On High Alert After Home Invasions
The Hammond Police Department would like to advise the community to be on high alert due to three home invasions that took place last evening, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. Please be vigilant and keep your doors and windows locked, and be mindful of your surroundings, especially near your homes, Kellogg said.
On December 30th, at approximately 8:00 p.m., police were called to a home in the 4300 block of Elm Ave. The male and female residents stated that they heard a noise and found that an unknown male had entered their home. The suspect pointed a handgun and demanded money and jewelry. The suspect fled their home with the stolen items. No one was physically injured.
Officers were investigating this crime when they received another call at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the 4900 block of Oak Ave. The female victim at this location stated that she was exiting her apartment when she observed an unknown male walking towards her door. She attempted to re-enter her apartment when the male forced his way in behind her. The suspect again had possession of a firearm and stole various items including money and credit cards from this location. The female was uninjured.
Approximately four hours later, officers were dispatched to a home in the 6600 block of California Ave. for another home invasion. The female victim stated that she was sleeping and woke to find an unknown male subject in her home. The female stated that the male sexually battered her inside her bedroom before fleeing with the money he stole.
Hammond police believe the suspect to be the same person in all three incidents. The suspect was described as a black male in his 20’s, approximately 5’10”, 130-140 lbs, very thin, dark skin, dark denim jeans, dark or black jacket with a light (possibly gray) pullover hoodie underneath. The suspect was in possession of a handgun in all three cases.
If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, or you believe to see someone matching this description, stay inside your home with the doors and windows locked and call 911 immediately. This male should be considered extremely dangerous. We will keep the public updated with information about this case as we are able. If you have any information about these specific crimes, please contact Hammond Police Detective Sergeant Pinarski at 219-852-2983 or Det. Sgt. Munoz at 219-852-2995.
Someone needs to protect their property with force!
Tom… McDermott…. Tom where are you, or are you too busy running for congress… you need to resign from office.
Always be on high alert. Keep a firearm on yourself as much as possible. Be trained to use it and practice at a local range. It’s a shame , but it is where we are in society now. Especially in our urban areas. You have to do what you have to do.
