Hammond SWAT Called Out After Domestic Disturbance Monday

At approximately 4:30 PM, the Hammond Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence located in the 1300 block of 174th Place. A male subject reportedly was in possession of a knife, prompting family members to leave the residence for their safety. Upon arrival, officers observed the male subject locking the doors and heard noises indicating he was placing items against the door to barricade himself inside, according to Hammond Police.

Negotiations were immediately initiated and the SWAT team was dispatched. Despite multiple attempts to establish communication, the male subject did not respond to PA negotiations or phone call attempts.

After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the subject, the Hammond Police Department’s SWAT team made a tactical entry into the residence and successfully apprehended the male subject.

SWAT could be seen utilizing a ladder and making entry to the second floor balcony. Several items including tables were thrown down to the ground as swat made entry. These items were used to barricade himself inside. He is currently being charged with felony intimidation.
