Hammond Woman Charged After Striking Man in Head with Metal Pole Over Vape

Hammond — A 29-year-old Hammond woman has been charged after police say she struck a man in the head with a metal pole during a late-night argument.

According to court documents, charges were filed September 2, 2025, against Marissa C. Rodriguez following a domestic battery incident reported on September 1 at a residence in the 4200 block of Sheffield Avenue in Hammond.

Police reports state that around 11:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to the home for a domestic battery call. Rodriguez admitted to officers that during an argument she grabbed a pole and struck the man once in the head. Officers observed blood on her hands and placed her under arrest.

The man told police the altercation began over a missing vape and escalated when Rodriguez picked up a metal bed frame support rail and hit him in the head. Officers reported he had a large laceration with heavy bleeding, and he was later transported by Hammond Fire Department medics to a hospital for treatment, where he received staples to close the wound.

Three children present during the altercation told police they witnessed Rodriguez strike the man. Officers also documented blood droplets throughout the living room and photographed the black metal pole found on the front porch.

Body-worn camera footage reviewed by detectives confirmed the statements made at the scene.

Charges filed September 2, 2025:

    •    Level 5 Felony – Domestic Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon

    •    Level 5 Felony – Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury

    •    Level 6 Felony – Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child Less Than 16

    •    Level 6 Felony – Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury

Rodriguez is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
