Highland Grandfather Charged With Child Molesting
According to court documents, Highland Police were contacted to report a case of child molestation that occurred between January 2023 and December 2023.
The elementary school of the victim contacted the victim’s mother about inappropriate conduct at school, as the victim had been kissing the groin area of an avatar created on a school iPad. The victim later reported to her mother that she had been touched inappropriately by her grandfather during “relaxing time” while they were watching a movie together.
The victim’s mother explained, Felix Cervantes, 70, of Highland, was her father, and that she and the victim had lived with her father for about 2 years. The victim’s mother also advised there had been similar allegations against Felix Cervantes in the past, but she did not know the outcome of those allegations.
A forensic interview was conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
During the investigation, Felix Cervantes was contacted and requested that he come to the police station and provide a statement. Cervantes was made aware of the allegations at this time. Cervantes advised he contacted his attorney and was advised not to speak with police before speaking with his attorney.
In reviewing the criminal history of Felix Cervantes, it was learned that he was previously convicted in Lake County of child molestation on 02/01/2002.
