Hit & Run Crash Leads to Multiple Charges

On September 20th, at 7:30 a.m., a hit and run crash occurred on I-80/94 near the 18 mile-marker, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of the Indiana State Police.  A white Mitsubishi was reported to have side swiped a Kia and failed to stop.  Master Trooper Lawrence McFarrin located the Mitsubishi and observed the vehicle traveling at 116 m.p.h.  The vehicle was also weaving and almost struck a semi.  M/Trp. McFarrin was able to make a traffic stop on the Mitsubishi near the 22 mile-marker.  As the vehicle pulled over, the driver and a passenger attempted to change positions in the vehicle.  The driver went to the back seat and the front seat passenger went to the driver’s seat.  The driver, who was now seated in the rear, refused to identify himself and refused to exit the vehicle when asked.  Several attempts were made by M/Trp. McFarrin with the suspect refusing each time.  Due to the suspects non-compliance, troopers removed him from the vehicle and placed him under arrest.  The suspect continued to refuse to identify himself even after being transported to the Porter County Jail.  He was eventually identified later in the afternoon as Jay N. Moore-McGee, 30, from Channahon, IL.  Mr. Moore-McGee is preliminarily charged with the following:

  • O.W.I.- Level 6 Felony
  • O.W.I.- Misdemeanor

  • Resisting Law Enforcement- Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving- Misdemeanor
