Hobart – Hammond Bank Robber Captured
On August 18, 2021, Garrett Lecyk was charged with 2 counts of Level 5 Robbery in connection to the robbery that occurred on August 12, 2021 at the People’s Bank located on the 1500 block of Southlake Park Avenue in Hobart.
Mr. Lecyk was taken into custody by Detective Sergeant William Granzow and Detective Michael Gallagher on August 16, 2021 in the parking lot of the Hard Rock Casino. The Detectives heard that a bank robbery had just occurred in Hammond, which the suspect and vehicle matched the description of the suspect involved in the Hobart bank robbery on August 12, 2021. While en route to Hammond, the Detectives made the decision to drive through the parking lot at the casino and they located the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Hobart Police Department.
The suspect is currently being held at the Lake County Jail. The Hobart Police Department thanked Hammond PD and FBI GRIT for their assistance with the investigation.
