Hobart Home Invasion Leads To Charges Against Lake Station Man

Hobart- A Lake Station man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he forced his way into a Hobart home, shot the resident in the hip, and stole his wallet before being taken into custody a short time later.

According to court documents, officers were dispatched around 2:29 a.m. on September 27, 2025, to a residence in the 5700 block of South Liverpool Road for a reported home invasion.

Police observed a damaged front door, a silver lock piece on the porch, and a muddy footprint near the handle, consistent with forced entry. Inside, the 69-year-old homeowner told officers he was awakened by a loud bang and saw Dannie Lee Moore, 60, in his bedroom doorway.

The homeowner reported that Moore shot him in the right hip and threatened, “If you get up I’ll shoot you again.” He said Moore forced him to crawl to his TV stand, demanded his wallet, and then fled northbound on Liverpool Road. The victim described Moore as wearing jeans and a jacket and said he drove a red, older-model pickup truck.

The victim told investigators he recognized Moore by sight and voice, noting that the two had lived together about two months earlier.

Officers observed bruising and torn jeans at the victim’s hip and recovered a copper-colored projectile from the bedroom floor. No shell casing was located, leading investigators to suspect the use of a revolver, single-shot firearm, or bolt-action rifle.

Investigators quickly identified Moore as a suspect. Officers went to the 3300 block of California Street in Lake Station, where they found him along with a red pickup matching the victim’s description. Moore’s clothing also matched what was reported.

A search of a detached shed at the property uncovered a box of ammunition with 35 live rounds, 15 missing, consistent with the round recovered at the scene.

Detectives executed a search warrant on Moore’s vehicle, which yielded no firearm or wallet. In a later interview, Moore gave conflicting statements, first claiming he was home all night and then saying he visited a friend, while denying seeing the victim or owning a firearm.
