Hobart K9 Officer Hit Responding To Call Saturday Night

A Hobart Police Officer & K9 partner were responding to a call for shoplifter armed with scissors when they were struck in their vehicle and injured Saturday evening around 4:30pm, according to Captain James Gonzales of The Hobart Police. 

The Officer was making a southbound turn into the Target parking lot from route 30 when an eastbound car struck him on the passenger side of his vehicle and it caused his suv to roll several times, Gonzales told Region News. Gonzales believes both vehicles were totaled.

The Officer suffered minor injuries and he was treated and released from a local hospital, his k9 partner was kept overnight for observation at the pet clinic. The officer is an 8 year veteran with the department.

One occupant of the BMW that struck the police car was also transported by The Hobart Fire Department and treated at an area hospital, Assistant Fire Chief Joe Reitz told Region News.

As per protocol Hobart Police contacted the Lake County Sheriff’s Department to handle the investigation.
