Hobart Man Charged After Outburst In Squad Car After Bar Disturbance
A Hobart man, Benjamin Harold King, 40, has been charged after officers reported he became combative, issued violent threats, and kicked an officer in the back of the head several times during an early-morning arrest on December 5,2025, following an incident at a Hobart bar.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched around 1:15 a.m. to the Endzone bar in downtown Hobart for a male who had been kicked out of the bar and was causing an issue. When officers arrived, they found King lying on the public sidewalk. From the odor commonly associated with alcohol and his slurred speech, he appeared intoxicated.
As officers helped King to his feet, he began screaming profanities toward them. While attempting to restrain him for public intoxication, King allegedly resisted. It took multiple officers approximately 30 seconds to secure wrist restraints. King continued yelling vulgar and threatening language as he was escorted to the patrol vehicle.
During transport to the Lake County Jail, with officers driving in emergency mode due to his aggressive behavior, King allegedly screamed that he was going to “slice your throats.” After passing 61st Avenue and Marcella Boulevard heading south on Mississippi Street, he began kicking the laptop stand and laptop inside the patrol car.
When officers attempted to control his right leg, King kicked an officer in the back of the head with his left foot approximately five times, the affidavit states. The officer did not require medical attention. Officers pulled over on Mississippi Street, where another unit provided leg restraints, which were then applied.
Upon arrival at the Lake County Jail, King was turned over to the Lake County SORT Team and booked.
