Hobart Police Arrest East Chicago Man in Cocaine Trafficking Investigation

An East Chicago man is facing multiple felony drug charges after a weeks-long investigation by Hobart Police uncovered evidence of cocaine trafficking, including two controlled buys, surveillance operations, and a raid that uncovered drugs and firearms.

According to a charging affidavit, investigators used a confidential informant (C.I.) who successfully purchased cocaine on two separate occasions from Dwayne Doss, a known individual residing at 3808 Deal Street in East Chicago and employed at Albanese Candy Factory in Merrillville.

The purchases took place in a maroon Chevy Impala, which was tracked by law enforcement and linked back to Doss’ residence.

On May 6, police executed a search warrant at Doss’ residence, where they discovered 12 individually packaged bags of suspected cocaine totaling 6.5 grams, along with a Mossberg shotgun and a .380 Smith & Wesson handgun. Investigators believe the packaging and weapons indicate the drugs were intended for distribution.

Doss was later pulled over in Hobart for speeding and identified via his Indiana driver’s license. The vehicle matched the same maroon Impala used during the drug transactions.

Dwayne Doss now faces formal charges including:

  • Dealing in Cocaine
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance – Controlled Substances

This investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed.
