Hobart Raid & Traffic Stop Leads To 3 Charged In Drug & Fugitive Case

A Hobart traffic stop and subsequent raid on a residence in the 200 block of South Ash Street have led to three people facing charges in Lake County, after police reported seizing cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and finding a fugitive hiding in a crawl space.

According to court documents, the investigation began on the morning of September 24, 2025, when Hobart police stopped a white Chevrolet Tahoe after pacing it at 30 miles per hour in a 25 zone near East Cleveland and South Indiana Street. The driver, identified as Terry Terrone Adkins, 43, of Gary, presented only a learner’s permit and did not have valid insurance. Officers reported detecting the odor of burnt marijuana and, during a search of the vehicle, located a backpack containing four baggies of a white substance that weighed approximately 69 grams and field-tested positive for cocaine. A box of sandwich baggies, one torn in a manner consistent with narcotics packaging, was also recovered. Detectives noted that the quantity of cocaine constituted possession with intent to deliver under Indiana law.

Police said the cocaine discovery was significant because Adkins had been seen leaving the alleyway near the 200 block of South Ash Street just before the stop. Investigators were already conducting surveillance at that location as part of an effort to locate Joshua Alan Gospodarek, 44, who had three active arrest warrants, including one for felony possession of cocaine.

Later that same day, Hobart officers went to the South Ash Street residence to serve the warrants. They made contact with Amanda Kristine Rushing, 42, who told them Gospodarek was not home. With the warrant in hand, police entered the residence and searched the property. After multiple announcements, officers discovered a crawl space beneath a child’s bedroom closet that was blocked by a mattress and concealed by a blanket. On their second announcement, Gospodarek admitted he was inside and surrendered without incident. Investigators concluded the crawl space had been intentionally blocked from the outside, leading to Rushing’s arrest for assisting a criminal.

A search warrant was then executed at the residence. Inside, officers reported finding multiple digital scales, baggies, a glass pipe consistent with crack cocaine use, cellphones, and a small amount of cocaine in the bedroom shared by Rushing and Gospodarek. Mail addressed to Rushing was also recovered.
