Hobart woman charged with multiple felonies in infant abuse case

According to court documents, Angelica S. Sailors of Hobart has been charged after investigators reviewed a video showing her violently abusing her infant daughter in 2021. The case came to light after the video was posted on Facebook in September 2025.

Investigators reported the video showed Sailors picking up her one-month-old daughter, shaking her, choking her, and striking her with an open-hand slap. During an interview, Sailors admitted she had physically abused the child on multiple occasions, including shaking her, choking her for as long as 10 seconds, and slapping her when the baby would not stop crying. She acknowledged her actions carried substantial risk of injury or death and admitted the abuse may have contributed to her daughter’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

Court documents state Sailors also confessed to abusing her older daughter, now 14, including choking her and shaking her as a baby. She described an incident in which she pinned the child against a bathtub wall and choked her. Investigators noted a pattern of abuse toward both children.

Sailors was taken into custody in Hobart on September 3, 2025.

Charges filed September 5, 2025:

    •    Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Catastrophic Injury – 2 counts (Level 1 Felony)

    •    Aggravated Battery, posing a substantial risk of death (Level 3 Felony)

    •    Aggravated Battery, causing serious permanent disfigurement (Level 3 Felony)

    •    Domestic Battery with Serious Bodily Injury to a Person Under 14 – 2 counts (Level 3 Felony)

    •    Battery with Bodily Injury to a Disabled Person (Level 5 Felony)

    •    Domestic Battery committed in the presence of a child under 16 – 2 counts (Level 6 Felony)

    •    Strangulation – 2 counts (Level 6 Felony)

    •    Battery Against a Disabled Person (Level 6 Felony)

    •    Neglect of a Dependent placing dependent in danger (Level 6 Felony)

The case remains pending. All charges are allegations, and Sailors is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Sailors is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
