Home Invasion Suspect Strikes Again In Hammond While Armed

On January 2nd, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Hammond police received a report of a home invasion that just took place in the 7300 block of White Oak Ave, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police.

The victim told police she was sleeping when she woke to the sound of someone looking through her closet, Kellogg stated. The victim stated she then observed a black male in his 20’s standing at the foot of her bed pointing a handgun at her. She stated the suspect continued to point a gun at her and forced her to assist him in gathering and carrying items out of the home. The suspect fled the home and the female immediately called 911.  One additional person was in the home asleep during the incident and neither subject was injured during the encounter, Kellogg said.

The suspect is believed to have committed multiple home invasions recently and should be considered armed and dangerous. Money and several firearms were reported stolen during this incident. The suspect gained entry into the home through an open window. Again, any suspicious subject or activity should immediately be reported to 911.

Residents are also encouraged to check any home video monitoring system they may have and call Hammond Police Det. Sgt. Munoz at 219-852-2995 if they believe they have captured footage of the area or have any information concerning this crime.

The Hammond Police Department again cautions the public to ensure that all doors and windows of their residences are closed and locked. Any suspicious subject or activity should immediately be reported to 911.

  1. They better have the morgue ready. Someone breaks in I’m dropping them dead. Burglars beware, in todays day and age you’ll have ppl waiting up just waiting to see how accurate the sights on their gun are.

  2. Motion detectors on windows and doors. We’re looking into it. It’s sad that one cannot live in peace and safety in and around their homes and in their neighborhoods. Sometime ago we had a guy who lived in our neighborhood coming and knocking on doors at 6:00 AM on Sunday mornings asking for a job, strange, yes. Well he ended up breaking our fence gate and started breaking in cars on our street. We wrote up a petition and we all signed it and got them to move out.
