Homicide in New Chicago Declared Isolated Incident; Suspect in Custody
Authorities have confirmed that a homicide in New Chicago was an isolated incident. The suspect, a male family member, is currently in custody following an incident that resulted in the death of his father, according to New Chicago Police Chief Earl Mayo.
Officers responded to a call for service regarding a family disturbance on 10/28/2024 at approximately 9:26 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, a male had sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. Emergency medical personnel transported him to St. Mary Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The New Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, where they currently have a suspect in custody. Police assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time,” said Chief Mayo. “We encourage anyone with additional information to come forward as we work to understand the full context of this incident.”
