Homicide Investigation Underway After Woman Found Dead Inside Hammond Home
Hammond – Authorities are investigating a possible domestic-related homicide after a woman was found dead inside her home Sunday evening in Hammond.
Just after 6:00 p.m. on October 5, 2025, Hammond Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of Summer Street for a welfare check. Upon entering the home, officers located the body of 37-year-old Kimberly Murphy of Hammond, who was deceased.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, investigators were called to Summer Street, where family later made a positive identification of Murphy. A forensic autopsy performed Monday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point determined that Murphy died from asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. Her death was officially ruled a homicide.
Police say the case appears to be domestic in nature, and a person of interest is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
