Illinois Man Revived with Narcan After Chase, Crash on I-80/94
A 54-year-old Illinois man is facing multiple felony charges in Lake County after authorities say he led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and a medical emergency involving an apparent overdose.
According to court documents, Frank H. McGhee was spotted on July 16, 2025, driving a black Dodge Challenger recklessly on the Calumet Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-80/94 in Hammond. A Lake County Sheriff’s Department detective observed McGhee pass another vehicle on the shoulder before weaving through traffic at high speeds and fleeing after emergency lights and sirens were activated.
The pursuit continued through Hammond, with McGhee allegedly using the shoulder and making dangerous lane changes. He exited at Kennedy Avenue, narrowly missing another vehicle before crashing into a guardrail and concrete barrier.

When officers approached the vehicle, McGhee was unresponsive. After breaking the window and cutting away the airbag, officers identified him using a paper Illinois driver’s license. He was removed from the driver’s seat and placed on the ground in a safe area, where CPR was initiated after it was observed he was not breathing. An AED was applied, and McGhee was administered two doses of Narcan nasal spray.
While officers were rendering aid, dispatch confirmed that McGhee had an active full-extradition felony arrest warrant out of Cook County, Illinois, issued on June 6, 2025, for Dangerous Drugs.
McGhee was transported to Community Hospital in Munster with serious injuries, including a fractured humerus and dislocated pelvis. He was later transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center for further treatment.
Authorities also noted McGhee has a prior 2012 conviction for Aggravated Fleeing of a Peace Officer in Illinois, for which he served over four years in prison.
