Indiana State Police Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Jasper County
The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, is investigating an officer involved shooting, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield.
Preliminary investigations by the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division Lowell Post revealed that today, at approximately 4:15 PM, a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on S.R. 14 east of C.R. 475 E. This location is near the Pulaski County line on S.R. 14.
During the traffic stop, the officer attempted to arrest the suspect when the suspect resisted. An altercation took place between the suspect and the officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect. The investigation also shows that during the traffic stop, the suspect was in possession of a firearm.
The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. The Jasper County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased once positive identification and family notification has been made.
Once the investigation is completed, the findings will be submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for formal review.
