Indiana State Trooper Released After Being Hit By Gunfire

The Criminal Investigation Division from the Indiana State Police in Lafayette is investigating the officer involved shooting which occurred on Friday, June 12, 2020, Sgt. Glen Fifield said in a release Tuesday. The two troopers involved in this incident are both assigned to the Lowell Post.  Trooper Dennis L. Griffin is a 1 1/2 year veteran and Trooper Alaa Hamed is a 4 1/2 year veteran of the department.  Both troopers are currently on administrative duty as per department policy, Fifield stated.  Trooper Griffin sustained injuries to his lower extremities as a result of the gunfire.  He has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Griffin joined the ISP Lowell Post in April.

Once the investigation has concluded, all findings will be forwarded to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The investigation into the original carjacking at the Pilot in Remington, IN is also ongoing.  Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Rector or Detective Smith at (765) 567-2125.
