Inmate Charged With Attempted Murder After Lake County Jail Stabbing
Crown Point- A 30-year-old Gary man identified as Davonta Rufus Davis Horde has been charged with Attempted Murder following a stabbing inside the Lake County Jail.
The affidavit states the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, inside Section 3B of the jail. Correctional officers responded after hearing loud banging and found an inmate covered in blood and holding a cloth to his neck. The inmate had been stabbed on the left side of the neck just below the ear.
Medical staff provided emergency care before the inmate was transported by ambulance to Franciscan Health St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point. Due to the severity of the wound and a damaged artery, the inmate was later transferred to a Chicago hospital for further treatment.
Detectives arriving at the jail observed bloody footprints near the elevator and throughout the inmate range in front of dayroom 2 and house 2, where the stabbing occurred. A forensic team photographed the area.
According to the affidavit, three homemade shanks were recovered during the investigation following the attack.
Court records indicate that Horde retrieved an item from under his mat shortly before the attack. Witness accounts stated that Horde stabbed the inmate in the neck, pulled a piece of clothing over the victim’s head, and told the inmate to die slow before warning others nearby not to speak about what had happened. Afterward, Horde reportedly sat down at a table and began playing cards.
Video surveillance showed the victim entering Section 3B at 5:52 p.m. and exiting at 6:01 p.m., bleeding heavily. The stabbing itself was not captured due to a lack of cameras in the hallway, but inmates were seen reacting to the incident and attempting to dispose of objects in nearby toilets.
