Inmate Charged With Battery After Incident Inside Lake County Jail

Crown Point- A Hobart man is facing felony charges after court documents state he headbutted a Lake County Jail corrections officer during an escort in the booking area late last month, resulting in a concussion.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Craig Martin Board, 37, was being escorted back to holding around 8:45 a.m. on September 29, 2025, when he suddenly turned and headbutted an officer in the forehead area. Surveillance footage captured the assault at approximately 8:57 a.m.

Jail staff immediately restrained Board in front of the mug and print area. Additional personnel responded, and Board was placed in a restraint chair after making statements indicating self-harm. He was later placed on suicide precautions. The officer was medically cleared and diagnosed with a concussion without loss of consciousness.

Detectives reviewed multiple camera angles, which confirmed the headbutt. 

Board was lodged in the Lake County Jail on October 16, 2025.

Charges Filed October 16, 2025

    •    Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury — Level 6 Felony

    •    Battery Against a Public Safety Official — Level 6 Felony
