
Investigation into I-65 Shooting Leads to Arrest
Lake County- This past Monday, October 6th, detectives with the Indiana State Police District 13 Investigations Division were asked to investigate a shooting that occurred on I-65 near 61st Ave, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield.
At the time of the shooting, two subjects sustained gunshot wounds as a result of gunshots that were fired at them from another vehicle as they were both traveling southbound on I-65. After four days of detailed investigation, an arrest was made Friday afternoon in Griffith, Fifield stated.
In the early morning hours Friday, the Northwest Regional SWAT Team assisted ISP detectives in serving a search warrant at a residence in Griffith. The suspect was not at home at the time of the search. During the search, investigators seized a stolen firearm as well as drugs.
The suspect eventually returned to his residence and was taken into custody by Griffith Police. ISP detectives also returned to the scene and formally arrested him.
The suspect has been identified as Nathaniel C. Malone, 23, from Griffith, IN. He is preliminarily being held at the jail on the following charges:
Attempted Murder- Level 1 Felony
Aggravated Battery- Level 3 Felony
Battery with a Deadly Weapon- Level 5 Felony
Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury- Level 5 Felony
Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon- Level 5 Felony
Possession of a Stolen Firearm- Level 5 Felony
Possession of Marijuana- Class B Misdemeanor
Charges listed above are accusations of a crime. Final charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
