Iowa Pair Found To Have 8 Guns After Pursuit On Easter

Update From Hammond Police On Pursuit Ending With Suspects Crashing Into A Home

On April 9th, the Hammond Police Department received a stolen license plate alert on a green Mini Cooper entering the city through Hammond’s BlueNET license plate reader system. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit when the driver fled. The chase came to an abrupt end when the vehicle crashed into a residence in the 200 block of 142nd St.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the crash. Officers apprehended a male and female from Iowa, both of whom were in possession of gun belts, and one ballistic style vest. The police searched the vehicle and recovered eight firearms, 17 magazines, and over 700 of rounds of ammunition.

“This incident highlights the importance of BlueNET technology and our proactive policing efforts,” said Police Chief William Short. “I would like to thank the officers involved in this case for their dedication and service. Our officers work tirelessly every day to keep our city safe and stop crimes like this potentially terroristic event.”
