Jahmal Deshawn Sanders Charged With Home Invasions & Rape Charges
On February 12th, Hammond police detectives presented charges to the Lake County Prosecutor’s office in connection with the home invasion and sexual assault that occurred on December 30, 2019 in the 6600 block of California Ave, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police. The 24-year-old suspect has been identified as Jahmal Deshawn Sanders from Gary, Indiana. Sanders has been charged with three counts of rape (level one felony), one count burglary (level 2 felony), one count armed robbery (level 3 felony), one count criminal confinement (level 3 felony), and one count unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (level 4 felony).
The investigators are further looking into this subject’s possible involvement in recent incidents in the 6400 block of Tennessee and 2200 block of 167th St, along with numerous other crimes in Hammond and Lake County. If that involvement is determined, additional charges may follow at that time, Kellogg stated.
