Jury Finds Gary Woman Guilty for Shooting at Man at Hobart Gas Station
Zakira S. Porter was found guilty Tuesday for charges stemming from an incident that took place May 27, 2022, at Luke Oil located in the 3200 block of W. 37th Avenue.
Porter was accused of shooting at a man standing near his vehicle at the gas station, according to the Probable Cause Affidavit. The man’s children were inside his vehicle when the shots were fired. Porter was also accused of using pepper spray on the man.
The Jury deliberated for almost 2 hours, and found Porter guilty of the following charges:
- Attempted Battery by means of a deadly weapon: Level 5 felony
- Three Separate Counts of Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly
weapon: Level 6 felony - Pointing a firearm at another: Level 6 felony
- Intimidation – Threat to commit a forcible felony: Level 6 felony
- Battery: Class B misdemeanor
Porter is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on March 4, 2025.
The Level 5 Felony is punishable by a sentence ranging from 1 to 6 years in IDOC with an advisory sentence of 3 years. Each Level 6 Felony carries a sentencing range of 6 months to 2.5 years in the IDOC with an advisory sentence of 1 year. The Class B Misdemeanor is punishable by up to 6 months in the County Jail.
