La Porte Woman Charged After Stolen Car With Rubber Duck-Decorated Dashboard Spotted by Police
Veronica Marie Yaw, 30, of La Porte,is charged after police say she was found driving a vehicle minutes after it was stolen from a grocery store parking lot.
According to court documents , Laporte PD were dispatched Feb. 16 to Street Meats in reference to a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The owner reported he left his vehicle running and unlocked in the parking lot as he went into the store for groceries, and when he came back outside he observed his vehicle traveling westbound on 16th Street. He told police the silver Honda Civic had multiple rubber ducks in the front dash of the window.
While searching the area, an officer observed a gray Honda Civic turning on 18th Street and observed multiple ducks in the dash through the windshield and a female driver before initiating a traffic stop near the 1400 block of West 18th Street. Police then identified the driver as Veronica Yaw and confirmed the vehicle was the one reported stolen.
Police reported Yaw gave changing explanations about how she obtained the vehicle and would not directly answer most questions.
The owner later checked the vehicle and reported no new damage and that all belongings remained inside.
Lodged in the Laporte County Jail.
