Lake County Drug Task Force Executes Warrant

Members of the Lake County Drug Task force executed a search warrant on January 28th at a home in the 900 block of West 67th Place in Merrillville, according to a press release from The Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Officers recovered approximately 100 grams of cocaine and about 20 grams of heroin with an approximate combined street value of $20,000. Two handguns and three assault rifles were also recovered from a safe inside the residence.

In the garage of the home, officers discovered 7 dogs. The animals were found in squalid conditions. The floors of the cages were covered with feces and urine and the animals appeared to be malnourished. At least one of the dogs bears scars commonly associated with dogfighting.

“A two-month narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Merrillville man and the confiscation of drugs, firearms and several allegedly neglected dogs,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
