Lake Station Man Arrested After Portage Shooting
On Sunday, June 25, 2023 at approximately 1:49 PM officers of the Portage Police Department responded to the area of the Port Crossing Apartments in reference to a report of a man being shot, according to Lt. Rob Maynard of The Portage Police.
Upon arrival, officers located a twenty year
old male in the parking lot who was bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound to the bicep. Officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding prior to EMS arriving on scene. The victim was transported to North Lake Methodist for further treatment.
Initial statements place the victim inside the same vehicle as the shooter when a disturbance broke out. During the altercation the victim was shot while still seated in the vehicle but managed to get out and run to satety as the suspect drove away.
Members of the Portage Detective Bureau also responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses. A suspect was determined and taken into custody at approximately 10:30 AM on June 26th.
The suspect has been identified as Logan M. James, 19 , of Lake Station. Mr. Logan is being held at the Porter County Jail without bond on the charge of aggravated battery, a level 3 felony.
