
Lake Station Man Killed Early Sunday; One Person in Custody
LAKE STATION — A 21-year-old Lake Station man was found dead early Sunday morning after police were called to Central Avenue, according to information released by the Lake Station Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
At approximately 1:51 a.m., Lake Station officers were dispatched to 2626 Central Avenue to assist EMS with a report of an unconscious and unresponsive male. When officers arrived, they located the victim, who was pronounced deceased on scene. Police confirmed that one person was taken into custody at the location.
Authorities emphasized that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Benard Taylor, 21, of Lake Station. According to the coroner’s report, Taylor sustained a lacerating wound, and his manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
A forensic autopsy will be conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. The Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators, along with Lake Station Police and Fire Departments, are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Police have not released the suspect’s identity.
