LAKE STATION OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
On Sunday, 6/30/2024, Officers of the Lake Station Police Department were notified of heavy pedestrian foot traffic in the area of 28th Avenue and Dekalb Street.
While on scene investigating the complaint, an unidentified offending vehicle fired shots towards a crowd of pedestrians on the side walk, at which point an Officer with the Lake Station Police Department returned fire at the offending vehicle, according to Lake Station Police.
The Officer in question has been placed on Administrative leave per Department Policy, and the Indiana State Police have been requested to complete an independent investigation into the incident. Additionally, the Lake Station Police Department would like to thank the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force for their assistance and support.
