Lansing Man Charged With Murder After July 6th Shooting

On July 6, 2021, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Lansing Police Officers were dispatched to 17126 Grant Street for a report of shots fired, according to Chief Al Phillips.

Upon arrival, they located a male subject inside a vehicle that was parked in the driveway who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body. The subject was identified as Floyd Steele, 34, from Chicago. Lansing Paramedics treated and transported Mr. Steele to Franciscan Health in Hammond where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Lansing Police Criminal Investigations Division conducted a thorough investigation and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators gathered shell casings and other evidence from the scene. Detectives learned that the offender (Juwan Frazier) went to the address on Grant Street, where he previously lived, and observed his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle with another male subject. Mr. Frazier confronted Mr. Steele and fired several shots striking him multiple times. On July 8, 2021, the Lake County Indiana Coroner’s Office ruled Floyd’s death a Homicide. Witness information, evidence, and the Coroner’s ruling were forwarded to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

On July 12, 2021, Juwan Frazier, 37, from Lansing came to the Lansing Police Department, with his Attorney, and was taken into custody without incident. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted and Frazier was charged with first-degree murder. Frazier will be processed and transported to the Markham Courthouse (6th District) for a bond hearing on July 13, 2021.
