LaPorte County With A Presumptive COVID-19 Case

As of Saturday morning the number of presumptive positive cases has risen to 15 for the state out of 89 tested. The newest case comes in LaPorte County Indiana.

LaPorte Board of Commissioners President Sheila Matias indicated the patient was a 55-year-old male from the City of LaPorte who is currently hospitalized at Porter Regional Hospital in critical condition.

The patient was recently in Joliet to visit family she said. All of his family and contacts have been quarantined.

Indiana State Health Officials say not everyone is being tested however the number of positive cases is probably much higher. They are assuming the actual numbers are near a few thousand. Currently they are testing the most vulnerable people who have symptoms. They stress the continued need to keep social distance to eliminate the spread of the virus. If you do believe you have symptoms you are asked to call your physician or local hospital before showing up. That is the most important thing to take from this currently, if you are sick stay home!
