Large Full Honor Procession Planned Saturday For Calumet City Deputy Fire Chief

Calumet City Deputy Fire Chief Pete Bendinelli died earlier this week due to an illness, according to a press release from Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones.

Deputy Fire Chief Pete Bendinelli died at his Dyer, Indiana home Monday surrounded by family after battling an illness over the past year.

“Deputy Chief Bendinelli was the crown jewel of our Fire Department,” Jones said. “He had a keen sense of every fire protocol and regulation and shared his expertise with scores of young firefighters throughout southern Cook County.”

Bendinelli began his fire service career with Burnham Fire Department before joining the Midlothian Fire Department in 1997. In October 1998, he found his home with the Calumet City Fire Department.

On Saturday, April 5, a large procession with full honors for Deputy Fire Chief Bendinelli will be leaving Faith Church in Dyer around 11 AM. The procession will be taking the following route: Wentworth Ave to Sibley Blvd to Burnham Ave to Pulaski Rd to Torrence Ave to Michigan City Rd then down Burnham Ave into Lansing.

Residents are encouraged to come out and pay their respects along the route if they are able. The procession is expected to arrive in Calumet City between 11:45 AM and 12 PM. A smaller procession will later return through Lansing, traveling south on Burnham Ave. The processional times may extend beyond those listed. Please plan accordingly for traffic disruptions, officials asked.

“On behalf of the entire city of Calumet City, we collectively send our heartfelt thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the entire Bendinelli family. We absolutely loved and admired Deputy Chief Bendinelli, but God loved him so much more,” Mayor Jones stated.
