Large House Fire Sends Multiple Departments To Lansing

Lansing Fire Department was dispatched to the 17800 block of Dekker Ave for an activated fire alarm around 8pm Tuesday. On arrival firefighters encountered large flames through the roof and thick smoke that could be seen from surrounding communities. A full still alarm was requested per Lansing Fire. The two story single dwelling had large flames coming off the backside of the building that drew a crowd on Torrence Ave. Firefighters fought the flames with an interior attack for close to a half hour according to Lansing Fire Deputy Chief John Grady. All residents evacuated the home uninjured but Firefighters sadly recovered a dog that perished in fire. One Firefighter was transported to Community Hospital with minor injuries but has since been released, Grady said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews responded back to the scene shortly after 4am Wednesday for a possible rekindle.

Lansing was assisted by Calumet City Fire, Lynwood Fire, Munster Fire, Buds Ambulance, South Holland Fire, Glenwood Fire, Thornton Fire, Tinley Park Fire, Burnham Fire Departments, and MABAS 24 Investigators.
